Whale worshipping in coastal village of Ha Tinh

Fishermen in coastal areas of Ky An provincial city’s Ky Ninh commune of Ha Tinh province held on April 14 the whale worshipping ceremony.  

The whale worshipping ceremony is annually held in the third lunar month.

The ceremony was organized from early morning to noon in four places of Nguyễn Thị Bích Châu temple, Sat Hai shrine, offshore and a main rite in Ngu shrine in Tam Hai 2 village.

Offerings in the ceremony featured the traditions of fishermen in coastal areas

As reported, Ngu shrine has been built for hundreds of years. The shrine was taken serious damages in Vietnam wars and has been renovated by locals.

The shrine worships gods of the sea and also a burial place for tens of dead whale drifting to Ky Ninh waters over the past years.

Unique architecture of whale worshipping temple

The temple is located in the Lady Victory Nguyễn Thị Bích Châu historical relic area.

Ky Ninh sea village currently has 200 fishing boats, including over 100 offshore boats.
