The Committee for Solidarity of Catholics in Ha Tinh province successfully held the 8th congress of the Catholics for national construction and defense for 2023-2028 tenure on June 26.

The event saw the presence of Priest Joseph Trần Xuân Mạnh, Part-time Vice President of the VFF Central Committee cum President of the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics and Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Hồng Lĩnh.
Ha Tinh province has eight deaneries, 71 parishes, and 237 sub-parishes, with over 169,000 Catholic followers (accounting for 13.6% the provincial population). Over the past years, the Catholic community in the province has proactively participated in patriotic movements with many practical outstanding results, contributing to socio- economic development in the locality.
As reported at the event, local Catholic followers have launched many social and charitable projects for building 486 charity houses, presenting 712 saving accounts to policy beneficiaries, providing free health-check and medicines, caring for disadvantaged children, lonely elders, etc.
In addition, during the Covid-19 prevention work, Catholic dignitaries and lay followers in the province have contributed over 2.5 billion VND to the Covid-19 Fund and presented money and necessities worth over 1.6 billion VND to badly affected people in Southern region.
The congress selected 41 members to the Catholic Solidarity Committee in Dak Nong for the 2023 – 2028 tenure with Mr. Lê Văn Dũng, Deputy Head of the provincial Health Department elected as Head of the Committee.
Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman Nguyễn Hồng Lĩnh spoke highly of practical contributions made by Catholic dignitaries and lay followers in the province over the past years.

On the occasion, the provincial People’s Committee and the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee presented certificates of recommendation to 20 Catholic groups and 20 individuals for their outstanding contributions in the patriotic movement in the 2018-2023 period.
