7th congress of Muslim community in Ho Chi Minh city convened

The Representative Committee of Muslim Community in Ho Chi Minh city solemnly convened on December 13 the 7th congress with the theme “Solidarity – Accompaniment – Responsibility – Compliance.”

The congress was attended by Ms. Tran Thi Minh Nga, Deputy Head of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs, representatives of Ho Chi Minh City authorities, representatives of Muslim community boards from Tay Ninh, Khanh Hoa and An Giang provinces, and 80 delegates representing the Muslim community in Ho Chi Minh City.

Attending the event included Vice Chairwoman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Thị Minh Nga, representatives from the city municipal authorities, the Representative Committee of Muslim community in provinces of Tay Ninh, Khanh Hoa and An Giang and 80 official delegates.

The 6th congress of the Representative Committee of Muslim Community in Ho Chi Minh city has reviewed outstanding religious affairs by Muslim Community over the past five years and mapped working plans for the next term (2025-2030).

Over the past five years, the Representative Committee of Muslim community actively engaged in social and humanitarian activities in localities. The Representative Committee in the city closely coordinated with local authorities, social organizations, and charitable associations to help poor households, disadvantaged families, the elderly living alone, orphans and people with disabilities. Food and essential supplies were also distributed during major religious festivals, particularly the month of Ramadan, as well as in response to natural disasters and epidemics.

The management boards of mosques and sub-mosques have maintained classes on Islamic teachings and Cham language, and presented 30 wheelchairs and bicycles, and hundreds of millions of VND tuition assistance and scholarships to Cham children with disadvantaged circumstances.

The event also nominated 14 official members to the Representative Committee, with Mr. Machdares Samael selected as the chairman of the representative committee for the 2025-2030 tenure.

New representative committee for 2025 – 2030 term makes its debut

Ho Chi Minh City is currently home to more than 11,000 Cham Muslim people, most of whom earn their livelihoods through small-scale trading. The community operates 15 mosques and seven religious practice sites to serve the religious needs of members.
