The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Board in Ben Tre province’s Thanh Phu district held on May 3 its 7th congress with the participation of 217 delegates.
The event taking place at Phuoc Khanh pagoda located in Thanh Phu town in the district also saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Nhựt Tấn, Standing Member of the VBS central Executive Council cum Chairman of the VBS Executive Committee in the province, and other dignitaries from the VBS executive committee in the province.
Guests at the event included Acting Chairman of the provincial Fatherland Front Committee Nguyễn Phúc Linh and Vice Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Phạm Ngọc Thành.

The congress approved a report of Buddhist affairs in the 2016-2021 tenure as well as elected 12 members to the VBS executive board for 2021-2026 tenure with Senior Venerable Thích Thiện Hạnh re-selected as Head of the executive board.
As reported at the event, during tenure 2016-2021, monks, nuns and lay Buddhists in the locality made practical contributions valued at over 31 billion VND to charity works.

During the event, one Buddhist group and 11 individuals were presented with certificates of merit of the VBS’s executive committee in the province, five groups and seven individuals received certificates of recommendation of the district People’s Committee for their practical contributions in Buddhist affairs and social works in the district in the past tenure.
