VBS in Nghe An holds online meeting

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Committee in Nghe An province held on September 12 an extended online meeting for discussion of important Buddhist affairs 2021.

The event chaired by Senior Venerable Thích Thọ Lạc, Standing Vice Chairman of the VBS executive committee, was attended by dignitaries of district-level VBS chapters in the province and heads of Buddhist pagodas in the province.

During the online meeting, the provincial VBS executive committee reviewed results of Buddhist affairs over past months in 2021 and mapped out key tasks for last months of the year.

As reported at the meeting, in the first nine months of 2021, many cultural activities imbued with humanistic values of Buddhism have been organized and received a positive response from local people, several new pagodas have been built, renovated and upgraded, such as Thien Son pagoda, Tan Ky pagoda, etc. The coordination between monks, nuns, pagodas’ management boards and the local authorities, mass and social organizations in localities has been closely strengthened and achieved good results.

The VBS executive committee has approved new abbots of Tien Linh pagoda located in Hung Nguyen district, Phat Tich and Trang De pagodas in Nghi Loc district, Chung Linh pagoda in Thanh Chuong district, etc.

In addition, many affairs have received due attention by Buddhist pagodas and the VBS chapters at the province and district levels such as mobilizing resources for construction and repair of gratitude and charity houses, presenting scholarships to poor pupils, participating in blood donation programs, presenting relief supplies to the poor and the lonely, and offering supports to the Covid-19 prevention and control work in the localities.

Representatives from VBS’s chapters in districts also commented on the Covid-19 prevention and control work in their locality in which all pagodas have suspended ceremonies and rituals with large gatherings of people, held online ceremonies, and have spent nearly eight billion VND in support of the epidemic prevention and control work and disadvantaged families.

Besides, dignitaries, monks and nuns also gave comments on issues related to the planning of pagoda land, establishment of pagodas, and fake Facebook accounts of pagodas calling for donations for individual purposes.
