The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in Mo Cay Bac district of Ben Tre province successfully convened its 3rd congress on April 23 in Ling Quang pagoda located in the district’s Phuoc My Trung.
The one-day event saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Nhựt Tấn, Standing Member of the VBS’s Central Executive Council cum Chairman of the Executive Committee of the VBS’s chapter in Ben Tre, Most Venerable Thích Lệ Linh, Member of the VBS central executive council cum Standing Vice Chairman of the VBS executive committee in the province, Senior Venerable Head of the VBS Executive Board in Mo Cay Bac district Thích Minh Phong, and large numbers of monks, nuns and lay Buddhists in the district.
The congress approved a draft report of Buddhist affairs of the VBS executive board in 2016-2021 tenure, outlined key tasks for the next five years, and elected the 15-member executive board of the VBS in the district for 2021-2026 term with Senior Venerable Thích Minh Phong reselected as Head of the executive board.
As reported, for the last five years, Buddhists in Mo Cay Bac district have made contributions valued at 30 billion VND for social charities in localities.
During the event, the authorities of Ben Tre province and Mo Cay Bac district presented certificates of recommendation to two Buddhist groups and 14 Buddhist individuals for their outstanding contributions for socio-economic development in the locality.
