The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) held on March 27 a meeting to check preparation for the UN Day of Vesak 2019.
The meeting saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu, Vice Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Council; Senior venerables Thích Thanh Quyết and Thích Thiện Thống, Vice Chairmen of the VBS’s Executive Council; and Senior Venerable Thích Đức Thiện, General Secretary of the VBS’s Executive Council cum Chairman of the UN Vesak Day 2019’s Organization Board.
The meeting heard the progress of preparation for the UN Vesak Day 2019 regarding the hosting venue for the grand ceremony, international guests, seminars, arts gallery, lanterns festival and Buddhist rituals.
After the meeting, VBS’s dignitaries have inspected construction of facilities for the event such as the main hall, exhibition location, canteen, etc.
VBS checks preparation for UN Vesak Day 2019
The UN Vesak Day 2019 themed “Global leadership and shared responsibilities for sustainable societies” to be held in May at Tam Chuc pagoda. It planned to draw the participation of 11,500 delegates from 100 countries and territories.
Vietnam was the hosting country for the UN Day of Vesak in Hanoi in 2008 and in Ninh Binh in 2014.
