A solemn ceremony for celebrating the Buddhist Parents Day 2019 – B.E. 2563 was held on August 4 in Truc Lam palace, Yen Tu relic site located in Quang Ninh province.
The event was organized by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee in Quang Ninh province, and attended by dignitaries from the provincial VBS and about 1,000 Buddhist followers in the locality.
The event featured preaching on the meaning of Buddhist Parents Day (Vu Lan), the presenting rose ritual as a symbol of expressing gratitude to the parents, and Buddhist rites and prayers for spiritual uplifting of the deceased ancestors and unborn children.
According to the Senior Venerable Vice Chairman cum Secretary of the VBS Executive Committee Thích Đạo Hiển, the provincial VBS Chapter has strictly implemented the regulation of the VBS Central Executive Council for eliminating the burning of paper votive offerings and not collecting money in the form of spiritual services, as well as encouraged Buddhist followers to focus on charitable activities for helping the poor such as blood and humanitarian donation.
