The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in Ha Tinh province’s Hong Linh provincial city successfully convened its 3rd congress for the 2021 – 2026 tenure on September 14.
The event taking place at Thien Tuong pagoda saw the presence of Senior Thích Quảng Nguyên, Vice Chairman of the provincial VBS’s Executive Committee, members of the provincial VBS’s Executive Committee, and abbots and abbesses of Buddhist establishments in the provincial city, and representatives from local authorities.
This year, due to complicated developments of the Covid-19 epidemic, the congress was scaled down, and strictly complied with regulations of Ha Tinh authorities for Covid-19 epidemic prevention and control, including the restriction of religious gatherings of more than 30 people.
During the past term, Buddhist monks, nuns and lay followers in Hong Linh have conducted Buddhist practices in accordance with regulations of the VBS and State laws. They have organized many social and charitable activities, including presentation of gifts on occasion of festivals, construction of charity houses, study promoting activities, mobilization of resources for supporting flood disaster prevention and the Covid-19 prevention work. In addition, they have also proactively joined in social movements launched by local authorities, contributing to socio-economic development in the locality.
The one-day event selected nine members of the new-term VBS executive board for 2021 – 2026 tenure with Venerable Thích Chánh Thành, Abbot of Thien Tuong reelected as head of the board.
On the occasion, the People’s Committee of Hong Linh presented certificates of recommendation to Buddhist groups and individuals for their outstanding contributions in Buddhist affairs in the 2016-2021 term.
