The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Chapter in Bac Ninh province solemnly held its 8th congress for the 2017-2022 tenure on August 3.
Attending the congress included Most Venerable Deputy Patriarch of the VBS’s Discernment Council Thích Thanh Sam, Most Venerable President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, Most Venerable Standing Vice President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu, and a large number of delegates representing monks, nuns and followers in the locality.
Director of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA)’s Department of Buddhist Affairs Bùi Hữu Dược and Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Council Nguyễn Hương Giang were amongst local guests at the event.
The one-day congress approved reports on performances of the VBS Chapter during the previous term and working plans for the 2017-2022 tenure, as well as elected 45 members to the VBS Chapter’s Executive Committee for the 2017-2022 tenure, with Senior Venerable Thích Thanh Phụng reelected as the committee Chairman.
As reported at the event, Buddhist monks, nuns and followers contributed a total value of over VND 21 billion to social charities in the locality.
