Tu An Hieu Nghia Buddhist Association cancels gatherings celebrating founding anniversary

The Central Executive Committee of Tu An Hieu Nghia (Four Debt of Gratitude) Buddhist Association issued a dispatch on Jun 1 to chapters and worshipping places of the Buddhist association for implementing the Covid-19 epidemic prevention measures.  

Accordingly, this year, the three major anniversaries of Tu An Hieu Nghia Buddhism will not be held on the 5th of the fifth lunar month at Tam Buu – Phi Lai pagoda located in Ba Chuc town of An Giang province’s Tri Ton district and other worshipping place of the Buddhist sect due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Worshiping places of Tu An Hieu Nghia Buddhist Association will only hang national and religious flags, and banners to celebrate the festival.

Tu An Hieu Nghia Buddhist Association was founded on the 5th day of the fifth lunar month in 1867 by Ngo Loi Buddhist Master. The three major anniversaries of Tu An Hieu Nghia Buddhist Association includes Founder Ngô Lợi’s Birthday, the founder’s enlightenment day, and the founding day of Tu An Hieu Nghia Buddhism.

The Central Executive Committee of Tu An Hieu Nghia Buddhist Association also asked executive boards of its chapters to suspend religious practices with large gatherings of people, strictly implement the epidemic prevention measures, ask dignitaries and followers not to make pilgrimages to Tam Buu - Phi Lai and other worshiping places of Tu An Hieu Nghia Buddhism during the founding anniversary festival 2021, as well as call on the Buddhist Association’s members to make practical contributions for the Covid-19 prevention fund.
