The Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism has approved the organization of training courses on the intangible culture of Thai ethnic group in the central province of Nghe An in 2021.
Accordingly, the culture, sport and tourism ministry will hold a training course for members of the Thai ethnic community in the province’s Quy Hop district from April 6-9 this year, and 70 artisans of the intangible cultural heritage will serve as presenters of the training.
Xang Khan is the cultural festival of Thai ethnic group and held once in every three years in the 2nd-3rd or 10th-11th lunar months of Thai calendar.
The festival means to thank shamans and ancestors for good things brought to the people’s life, and the opportunity for gatherings or making new acquaintances. At the festival, locals and tourists often have the opportunity to enjoy a show of traditional costumes of ethnic groups, gong performances, dances and folk games.
In September 2017, the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism recognized the Xang Khan festival of Thai ethnic group in Nghe An as a national intangible cultural heritage.
However, since its recognition as the national intangible cultural heritage, Xang Khan festival has not been revived in Quy Hop and other localities in the central province.
The opening of training courses on the intangible cultural traditions for Thai ethnic minorities in Nghe An’s Quy Hop district aims to gradually revive and preserve fine cultural values of the ethnic group.
