Tien Giang provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee held a meeting to review its performance in 2014 and approve working programs for 2015 at Vinh Trang pagoda on Jan. 2.
Attending the meeting were Most Venerable Thích Huệ Minh, member of the VBS Executive Council, Chairman of the provincial VBS Executive Committee and members of the VBS Executive Committee at district, commune levels.
Local guests at the meeting included Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Huỳnh Văn Phương; Deputy Director of Home Affairs Department Nguyễn Quốc Thắng and representatives from localities.
It’s reported that, in 2014, Buddhist dignitaries and followers in Tien Giang province have well implemented Buddhist activities, contributing to the successful organization of UN Vesak Celebration 2014 and prayers for peace in the East Sea. In social and charitable activities, the provincial Executive Committee has actively participated in local movements such as building solidarity housing, supporting poor people, donating wheelchairs, presenting scholarships to poor and excellent students,... with the total amount of nearly 35 billion VND.
As approved at the meeting conference, the working plans for 2015 would include the establishment of the VBS Executive Board of Cai Lay town, organization of seminars on education, missionary activities and rituals.
On this occasion, the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Committee presented 30 certificate of merit to six organizations and 24 individuals for their outstanding achievements in Buddhist affairs and charitable activities 2014.
