An opening ceremony for celebrating the Buddha’s Birthday Anniversary 2016 (B.E.2560) was held on May 14 at Vinh Trang Pagoda in Tien Giang province’s My Tho city.
The ceremony was presided over by Most Venerable Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee Thích Huệ Minh and attended by members of the provincial Discernment Committee and Executive Committee, representatives of the VBS executive board from 11 local cities and districts in the province, and over 500 Buddhists in the locality.
Representatives of the provincial Party Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, and Committee for Religious Affairs also joint the event.
According to Most Venerable Thích Huệ Minh, the celebration of Buddha’s Birthday Anniversary 2016 will last one week, from May 14 to 20. During this time, the VBS district-level executive boards in the locality will also organizes seminars, preaching and contests, as well as conduct many social and charitable activities in the locality for celebrating this important Buddhist event.
