Tien Giang provincial VBS Executive Committee reviews its six-month activities

Tien Giang provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee held a meeting on August 25 to review its performance in the first six month 2015 and solemnly close the Summer Retreat 2015 at Vinh Trang pagoda.

The meeting was chaired by Most Venerable Chairman of the provincial VBS Executive Committee Thích Huệ Minh, and attended by members of local VBS and about 500 Buddhist monks, nuns and followers in the locality.

Local guests at the meeting included Chairman of the provincial Committee's Commission for Mass Mobilization Trần Long Thôn, Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Huỳnh Văn Phương and representatives from the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs.

It’s reported that, in the first half of 2015, the provincial VBS Executive Committee has well implemented Buddhist activities including the successful organization of UN Vesak Celebration 2015 – B.E. 2559, appointment of abbots at 14 pagodas, organization of 595 Buddhist teachings courses for over 120,000 followers and the Summer Retreat 2015 – B.E. 2559 for 460 monks and nuns. Charitable and social activities have been conducted with the amount of over 18 billion VND.

On this occasion, the provincial VBS Executive Committee presented a certificate of merit to Buddhist monks and nuns for outstanding achievements in Buddhist affairs.
