Students of Vietnam Buddhist Institute in Ho Chi Minh City join blood donation program

The Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Institute in Ho Chi Minh City in collaboration with the Red Cross Association in the city held on Jun 7 a blood donation program for boarding student monks and nuns of the instituted.  

Nearly 500 boarding student monks and nuns of the Vietnam Buddhist Institute have registered for blood donation during the program, responding to a call of the municipal People’s Committee and the Red Cross Association for voluntary donating blood.

Due to the Covid-19 epidemic situation in the city over last days, more than 100 planned mobile blood donation tours for collecting 15,000 blood bags have been canceled, leading to a shortage of blood reserve for emergency and treatment at more than 150 hospitals in the city.

The one-day program was held with a strict implementation of measures for the Covid-19 prevention including a safe social distancing and observation of the 5K recommendation of the health ministry and collected 364 units of blood, contributing to overcome blood shortages in health treatment in the current context of the Covid-19 pandemic.
