Cau Ngang district in the southern province of Tra Vinh currently has 121,254 residents, of which 42,150 people belong to Khmer ethnic group, accounting for 34.76% of the district's population, with 23 Khmer Theravada Buddhist pagodas and about 500 monks.

Over the past years, the Association for Solidarity of Patriotic Monks in the district has well coordinated with local authorities at all levels for propagating and encouraging monks and lay Buddhists in the locality to well implement the Party's guidelines and the State’s policies.

Many Khmer monks and lay Buddhists in the district have been members of the Fatherland Front Committees at commune and district levels, who have proactively engaged in patriotic emulation movements and social charities, encouraged lay Buddhists to adopt civilized lifestyles and made practical contributions for environmental protection and poverty reduction in the locality.
