Over the past years, Phuoc Hao Parish under Vinh Long Diocese in Chau Thanh district’s Tra Vinh province has encouraged its parishioners to proactively join programs and movements launched for rural development and environmental protection in the province.
Phuoc Hao parish has closely work with local authorities for raising awareness of environmental protection in Saturday and Sunday masses, and implemented practical activities for the environment preservation such as the clearing of bushes on rural roads and polluted water, and prohibition of littering especially plastic bags and bottles, etc.
So far, the parish has held 260 meetings on environmental protection and the new-style rural development with 130,000 participants.
As a result, 1,075 Catholic households have registered to achieve set targets of the environmental protection in association with the new-style rural development.
Members of the parish have also closely worked with local authorities for upgrading local infrastructures: they have practically supported the construction of 1,8 kilometers of concrete rural road, the building of four new concrete bridges valued at over 800 million VND, as well as the reconstruction of class rooms in the primary school, etc.
