According to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Board of Thanh Binh district in the southern province of Dong Thap, religious people in the district has spent over 19 billion VND on social, charitable programs in the locality from the year 2019 to present.
Specifically, religious organizations in Thanh Binh have sponsored the construction of 80 charity houses and eight concrete village bridges, bought 10 ambulances for transferring poor patients free of charge, built and upgraded a total of 43.5 km of local roads, and presented 2,951 gift sets to disadvantaged students and poor people in the district. In addition, religious groups in the locality have been operating charity kitchens at Thanh Binh Hospital and first and second Thanh Binh High Schools, offering thousands of meals and water to the total of 913,029 poor patients and students from disadvantaged families.
In particular, the Hoa Hao Buddhist management board in An Phong commune has raised billions of VND for social and charitable programs in Thanh Binh district. From 2016-2020, the Buddhist management board successfully raised funds of approximately ten billion VND for building 175 new houses for the poor and tens of village bridges, and presented 3,000 gift sets to disadvantaged people.
Most recently, Nun Thích nữ Huệ Giác, Abbess of Nam An pagoda, has raised 1.6 billion VND for sponsoring the construction of Doc Vang Bridge connecting the two villages of Tan Hoa A and Tan Hoa B in Nam Am commune, which was kicked off in February this year.
Thanh Binh district is currently home to 70,000 believers of Buddhism, Catholicism, Protestantism, Hoa Hao Buddhism and Caodaism, accounting for 51% of the population in the district.
