The southern province of Dong Nai is currently home to approximately 2.1 million religious people, accounting for nearly 70% of the provincial population.
For the past weeks, religious organizations prestigious people of religions in the province have proactively reminded their members of the implementation of Law on Elections of Deputies to the National Assembly and People’s Councils.
Priest Dominic Hà Văn Chương, Head of Duyen Lang Parish cum Chairman of the Catholic Solidarity Board in Dong Nai province’s Cam My district, shared that 17 Catholic parishes in Cam My have proactively implemented guidelines of Xuan Loc Diocese and responded to local authorities’ requests for coordination in the communication work about the upcoming elections. He also informed that Catholic dignitaries have spent certain times at holy masses for talking with parishioners about the elections that slated for May 23.
Similarly, Priest Joseph Đinh Trọng Nghĩa, Head of Nghia My Parish cum Vice Chairman of the Catholic Solidarity Board in Nhon Trach district of Dong Nai stated that the parish’s management board and all parishioners have been closely accompanying with local authorities for successes of the elections of deputies to the 15th legislature and all-level People’s councils for the 2021-2026 tenure.
With over 950,000 members, accounting for one third of the population in Dong Nai, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in the province has issued a dispatch asking the district-level VBS executive boards to encourage monks, nuns and lay Buddhists in localities to fulfill civic responsibilities in the upcoming elections.
In the dispatch, the VBS executive committee in the province regarded the elections of deputies to the 15th Legislature of the National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the term 2021-2026 as the national event and opportunity for all citizens including Buddhists to show the civic duty and obligation towards the country.
Nun Thích nữ Diệu Trí, Abbess of Dai Giac pagoda in Dong Nai’s Bien Hoa City shared that, in the implementation of the provincial VBS’s dispatch, the pagoda has played a collaborative role in the communication work on the elections, as well as talked to local Buddhists about civic duties towards these elections during religious services held on the 14th and 30th of every lunar month.
