Religious involvement for environment protection in Quang Binh

Quang Binh province currently has two large of religions of Buddhism with 31,000 Catholic and over 3,000 Buddhists.  

The provincial VFF and representatives of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and Committee for Catholic Solidarity in the province has signed a cooperation agreement on protection environment and climate change adaptation in 2017.

Over the past three years, the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee (VFF) in collaboration with local religious organizations developed and replicated successful programs for environmental protection, climate change adaptation in the locality.

During the past three years, the provincial VFF organized 22 training conferences on environment conservation, climate change response with the participation of over 2,000 local officials and religious dignitaries and followers in the locality.

Responding the message of Pope France on environment protection, Catholic priests and members of the parishes in the locality have proactively joint in action plans launched for environment preservation including proper disposal of waste, tree plantation in the churches.

For the past three years, over 6,000 people from 95 Catholic residential areas simultaneously collected 100 tons of waste, cleaned 175 sewers and effectively closed down 126 arbitrary dumpsites with the participation of more than 6,000 members.

The provincial Buddhist executive committee has issued a message on environment protection and climate change adaption to Buddhist followers in the province. Contents of the signed program on environment protection and climate change adaption have been incorporated into Buddhist preaching and teaching classes.

The provincial VFF in collaboration with local religious organizations, including Quang Xa pagoda (Tan Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district), Dong Dung and Thong Thong Catholic communities ( Quang Minh commune, Ba Don town) expanded programs for hunger eradiation-poverty reduction and environment protection-climate change adaption in the residential areas, pagodas, and parishes in the province.
