In response to a launching program for the environment protection and respond to climate change by the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) central Committee, effective religious models have been developed for promoting roles of religions in environment protection in the locality.
Tien Phong commune has the largest vegetable production land area in Me Linh district with over 250ha. But many local used to litter pesticide bottles and plastic bags after using right at farm. For changing this bad habit, Senior Venerable Abbot of Trung Hau pagoda in the district Thích Chiếu Tạng has persistently educated local Buddhists on the adverse impacts of the habit on the living environment. In addition, the pagoda has planted many green trees and set more than 30 rubbish bins to help the environment clean and set examples for local people.
Cam Co Parish in Thuong Tin district’s Hong Van commune has successfully formed the club “Catholic youth volunteers for environmental cleaning”. According to a Catholic youth Nguyễn Văn Kha, on every Saturday morning, members of the club help cleaning local streets and roads, planting more trees and flowers in open spaces of the locality.
As reported, 198 families of the Co Giao village in Hong Van commune have registered to produce clean vegetables, keep livestock far from residential areas, discharge garbage at the right place, classify wastes and reduced the use of plastic bags.
In addition, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapters in district of Hai Ba Trung, Tay Ho and Soc Son have also actively participated in mobilizing locals to reduce the use of votive papers in religious and belief activities.
In the coming time, municipal authorities will focus on expanding successful religious models on environmental protection and religious organizations in the city will continue developing working plans for 2018 fitting with the doctrine and characteristics of each religion and practical situations in localities.
