Religions in Ho Chi Minh city actively participate in environmental protection

Ho Chi Minh municipal authorities held on December 17 a meeting to review the three-year implementation of the coordination program on environmental protection and climate change adaptation signed with religious organizations in the city.  

Since signing the program on environmental protection and climate change adaptation with the municipal Vietnam Fatherland Front committee, natural resources and environment department, 32 religious organizations in the city have implemented action plans for environmental protection in the city.

According to Deputy Director of the municipal natural resources and environment department Nguyễn Thị Thanh Mỹ, religious dignitaries in the city have integrated the content of environment protection and climate change in religious gatherings and guided followers and locals to proactively undertake activities practical to protection environment such as tree plantations and waste collection for making places and residential areas green and clean, etc.

According to Pastor Trần Thanh Truyện, President of the Vietnam Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Church welcomed and proactively responded to the directive issued by the municipal government for the environment protection and climate change adaption in the city and thanks to this directive streets and canals become cleaner and without waste.

Bishop Lê Thị Đan, Deputy Head of the Caodai Church’s Representative Committee in the city shared that in responding the program on environment protection, members of the committee have themselves set an example in implementing practical activities such as classification and proper discharge of waste, keeping religious places, residential areas and religious festival clean, etc.
