Religions in Dong Nai support Covid-19 prevention work

In the complicated context of Covid-19 pandemic in Dong Nai province, local religions have made practical contributions to the pandemic prevention and control work in the locality.  

According to Venerable Thích Thiện Bửu from Long Thien Pagoda located in Buu Hoa ward, Bien Hoa city, on July 12, the pagoda prepared two tons of vegetables and fruits presented to households in lockdown areas in the ward.

In addition, the pagoda also presented 100 gift package, each package containing rice, noodles, cooking oil, and monosodium glutamate, worth 200,000 VND to workers in the quarantine areas. The pagoda has donated 5 million VND to the local charity kitchen of Ward 5.

Also, a delegation from the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s (VBS) Executive Board in Bien Hoa city led by Senior Venerable Thích Minh Trí, Chairman of the Board has presented 50 million VND to the task force engaged in the covid-19 pandemic fighting and 300 gift sets, worth 90 million VND in total to disadvantaged people in quarantine areas of communes of Gia Tan 1, Gia Tan 2, Gia Tan 3, Gia Kiem and Quang Trung in Thong Nhat district.

Senior Venerable Thích Minh Trí informed that the city VBS’s Executive Board would continue presenting 1,000 gift packages to poor people in Bien Hoa city in the coming time.

The total contribution of the VBS’s social charity board in Bien Hoa city in the past three months, reached nearly 2.7 billion VND, including presentation of bicycles, scholarships, and health insurance to pupils, 500 support packages, worth 225 million VND  to households in the quarantine areas and the task force engaged in the covid-19 pandemic fighting, and donation of 730 million VND to the Covid-19 vaccine fund in the province, etc.

According to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Dong Nai, from June 7-29, local Buddhist followers have donated nearly 700 million VND to the Covid-19 vaccine fund. According to a plan, the VBS’s Executive Committee will continue fundraisings for donating an additional of 600 million VND to the fund.

Chairman of the solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics committee in the province Dominic Trần Xuân Thảo said that local Catholics have proactively joined with local authorities in the pandemic prevention and control work and organized social charitable activities to help poor people affected by the pandemic.

From May 31 to June 24, responding to a call of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in the province, Xuan Loc Cathedral diocese has supported 800 million VND to the Covid-19 vaccine fund.
