Patriotic monks association in Can Tho joins efforts in Covid-19 fight

In the complicated context of Covid-19 pandemic, Buddhist worshipping places in Can Tho city have presented gifts to quarantine stations in the city for supporting their pandemic prevention work.

As reported, Can Tho city currently has 35 quarantine stations, and the Association for Solidarity of Patriotic Monks has presented necessities to these stations for supporting the Covid-19 prevention work in the locality.

According to Senior Venerable Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s Executive Committee in Can Tho cum Deputy Head of the solidarity of patriotic monks association in the city and Abbot of Puti Khosa pagoda Lý Hùng, in the first half year 2021, the association has successfully raised a fund worth nearly 12 billion VND for social charities, including over one billion VND donated to the Covid-19 pandemic prevention work in the locality.

Buddhist worshipping places in the city have also strictly observed preventive measures against Covid-19 pandemic. 155 worshipping places in the city currently suspend all Buddhist practices, limit gatherings with no more than 10 people, and ask visitors to observe the 5k recommendation of the health ministry when coming to these places.

During meetings with lay Buddhists, monks of these worshipping places have also communicated about risks of COVID-19 infection and raised people’s awareness and responsibility in the pandemic prevention work in the community.

Can Tho city currently has 13 religions with 27 religious organizations, 387 worshipping establishments and about 100 religious practicing places. Most of these religious establishments and places have well observed regulations for the pandemic prevention.
