Ninh Thuan provincial authority honors social, charitable contributions by Buddhist Sangha in Thuan Bac district

Under guidance of the Thuan Bac district VBS’s Executive Board, Buddhist monks, nuns and followers in the district have conducted many social and charitable activities for the poor in the locality.

As reported at the 2nd Buddhist Congress held on July 20 in Long Cat Pagoda, in the last tenure (2012-2016), Chairwoman of the district VBS’s Executive Board cum Abbess of Long Cat Pagoda Thích nữ Đức Thịnh actively raised funds for many social, charitable activities, including construction of 10 charitable houses worth VND 20 million each house, presentation of 125 bicycles to poor pupils, organization of free kindergartens and schools for poor children, provision of scholarships and school materials, supports to the poor and the elderly, and organization of health checks and distribution of free medicines for the disadvantages.

In addition, Nun Thích nữ Đức Thịnh also encouraged sponsors and benefactors to give arms to disadvantaged people for digging 58 wells to solve water shortage in drought areas and presenting 5,350 gift sets to poor people, with the total contribution of nearly VND 4 billion.

During the congress, Chairman of Ninh Thuan provincial People’s Committee presented certificates of merit to Thuan Bac district VBS’s Executive Board and Nun Thích nữ Đức Thịnh for their contributions to social and charitable activities in the province.
