Apart from marriage, house building is one of the most important things of Ede ethnic people.
When the house is completed, the homeowner usually holds a solemnly worshipping ceremony for inaugurating the house.
The offerings for this worshipping ceremony include one pig, one chicken, five jars of traditional liquor, and seven copper bracelets.
During the ceremony, the shaman conducts an offering rite dedicated to deities and ancestors praying for good health and luck in the new house.
At the ceremony
The new-house ceremony is a cultural tradition of the Ede people. However, this ritual has been gradually eroded in the villages in the Central Highlands. Thus this tradition is indeed of restoration, contributing to preserve and promote the culture of Ede ethnic group.
