New Buddhist temple under VBS in My Tho city established

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s executive board in Tien Giang province’s My Tho city held on January 1 a solemn ceremony for formally establishing Pho Chieu pagoda located in the city’s Dao Thanh commune.  

Present at the event included Most Venerable Thích Minh Chí and Most Venerable Thích Huệ Tâm from the VBS’s Discernment Committee in Tien Giang, Most Venerable Thích Thiện Duyên from the VBS’s Discernment Board in My Tho city, Senior Venerable Vice Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Committee in Tien Giang cum Head of the VBS’s Executive Board in My Tho city Thích Quảng Lộc, Venerable Nun Vice Chairwoman of the VBS’s Executive Committee in the province Thích Nữ Huệ Năng, Venerable Vice Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Board in My Tho Thích Lệ Hiếu, and large numbers of monks, nuns and lay Buddhists.

Guests at the event included Chairwoman of the Committee for Religious Affairs Bùi Thị Mai and Vice Chairwoman of the People’s Committee in My Tho Lê Thị Bé Phượng.

As reported, the provincial authorities approved for the establishment of Pho Chieu pagoda in July 2020, and later the VBS’s executive committee in the province has appointed Venerable Nun Thích Nữ Huệ Viên as the new abbess of the pagoda.

With the establishment of Pho Chieu pagoda, My Tho city currently has 55 Buddhist worshipping places in total.
