Muslim community in An Giang celebrates Ramadan

The Representative Committee of the Islamic Community in An Giang province Ceremonies held on April 7 a solemn ceremony to mark the beginning of Ramadan 2021.

Local guests at the event included Chairman of the provincial Committee for Ethnic Affairs Men Pholly and Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Nguyễn Phú.

Speaking at the event, Chairman Men Pholly extended best wishes to the provincial Islamic Representative Committee, members of the management board of mosques, and local Muslim on occasion of the Ramadan. He spoke highly of practical contributions of the Cham Islam community for the socio-economic development in the locality and expressed that they would further promote unity and join hands with local authorities in social programs and movements launched in the locality.

On the occasion, local authorities presented gifts to organizations and outstanding people of the Islam community in the province.

Observing Ramadan, the month of fasting, is sacred and compulsory for all Muslims. This year, Ramadan festival will take place from April 13 to May 12.

An Giang is home to over 17,000 Muslims, accounting for nearly 0.9% of the province’s population.
