On August 7, a closing ceremony was held for the Khmer language course 2016 for Khmer children in the locality organized at at Soc Xoai pagoda in Kien Giang province’s Hon Dat district.
Attending the closing ceremony included Venerable Vice Principal of Pali – Vini school Danh Phản, teachers and 300 pupils.
As reported at the event, after the three-month course, participating children were able to read and write in Khmer language according to the program of the Buddhist Clergy Education Board in Kien Giang province. The summer Khmer language course contributed to improve literacy, preserve and promote the traditional language of Khmer people.
According to the Ethnic Board in Kien Giang province, in summer 2016, the province opened 297 Khmer language classes for over 7,000 Khmer monks and children in the locality. The classes was held in districts having large numbers of Khmer residents of Giang Thanh, Hon Dat, Chau Thanh, Giong Rieng, Go Quao, Ha Tien town and Rach Gia city.
