Kien Giang province: Ha Tien town VBS holds general conference

Ha Tien town Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Board in Kien Giang province held on July 4 the general congress for 2016 – 2021 tenure.

The event saw participation of dignitaries of the provincial VBS Executive Committee, VBS executive boards in the province’s districts, representatives of Buddhist temples in the town and a large number of followers in the locality.

Local guests at the congress included Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Nguyễn Hoàng Oanh, Vice Chairman of the town People’s Committee Liêu Khắc Dũng and Chairwoman of the town Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Trần Ngọc Quyên.

According to the congress’ report, Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the town have contributed seven billion VND to social and charitable activities for the past five years.

 The one-day congress elected 21 members of the new-term VBS Executive Board for 2016 – 2021 tenure with Nun Thích Huệ Tâm as the Head of the Board.

Speaking at the congress, Chairwoman Trần Ngọc Quyên urged the new-term town VBS Executive Board to encourage followers to proactively join in local movements for the socio-economic development as well as make practical contributions to the social welfare in the locality.

Vice Chairman Liêu Khắc Dũng presents certificates of merit to  Buddhist groups and individuals

On this occasion, the town People’s Committee presented certificates of merit to five Buddhist groups and six individuals for their outstanding contributions in social and charitable activities in the locality.
