Kien Giang province: Go Quao district’s Patriotic Monk Association holds the sixth Congress

To implement a scheduled plan of the Standing Committee of the provincial Patriotic Monk Association in Kien Giang province, the district-level congress would be held this year, proceeding to the provincial Congress 2014- 2019.
On October 2nd, 2014, in the district’s meeting Hall, the Patriotic Monk Association of Go Quao district held an opening ceremony for the sixth Congress (2014-2019 term). Attending the ceremony were 80 Buddhist representatives including Most Venerables, Venerables, Achars, members of the Management Boards and outstanding Buddhists from 14 pagodas in the locality. Local guests at the opening ceremony included representatives from the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs, provincial Committee for Ethnic Minorities, and Go Quao district’s authorities.
The Congress adopted the summary report of the activities in 2009 -2014 term and approved the working plan for 2014-2019 term. In previous term, the Patriotic Monk Association of Go Quao district obtained practical results such as closely collaborating with the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha to disseminate the Party’s guidelines, State’ policies and laws; providing education and training for monks and Khmer children, participating in social charity... In the new term, the Patriotic Monk Association will continue to promote education and training activities and encourage Buddhist monks and followers to actively engage in movements for solidarity and socio-economic development in the locality.
At the Congress, delegates elected the 17- member Executive Committee of the Association consisting of monks, Achars, representatives from the Management Boards and outstanding Buddhists from 14 pagodas. The Executive Committee also approved the 5-member Standing Board. The Congress nominated Most Venerable Danh Đổng to serve as Chairman for another term.
On this occasion, the Standing Committee of the provincial Patriotic Monk Association presented Certificate of honour to 9 groups and 5 individuals; the Go Quao district People's Committee presented Certificate of merit to 6 groups and 15 individuals for their contribution to the Association in 2009-2014 term. /.
