Candaransi pagoda located in District 3, Ho Chi Minh city held on July 25 the opening ceremony the three-month summer retreat B.E. 2565 (from the 15th of the sixth lunar month to the 15th of the ninth lunar month).
Due to the complicated of Covid-19 pandemic in the city, the ceremony was internally held internally in the pagoda.
The ceremony was presided by Most Venerable Danh Lung, Member of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s (VBS) Executive Council cum Abbot of Candaransi Pagoda.
During the event, Buddhist monks conducted traditional Buddhist rites, as well as prayers for peace and blessings extended to the medical sector, the front force in the fight against the current pandemic, as well as to the whole people in the country.
The summer retreat school in the pagoda this year has 11 monks and they will conduct Buddhist rites and practices in the main worshipping hall with a strict observation of the 5k message as well as a safe distance for Covid-19 prevention.
Khmer pagodas in Kien Giang province have also begun the summer retreat 2021 with opening ceremonies held briefly and with restricted gatherings.

According to Senior Venerable Danh Phản, Member of the VBS Executive Council, Vice Chairman of the provincial association for solidarity of patriotic monks cum Abbot of Soc Xoai pagoda, his pagoda in Hon Dat district has over 100 monks joining the summer retreat this year. While attending the opening ceremony of this year summer retreat, they have strictly taken preventive measures against the current pandemic, including body temperature, disinfection, distance, no gathering, facemask, etc.
