“Green Pagoda” program launched to plant new trees in worshipping places

"Green Pagoda" is a non-profit program launched from April 2021 with the goal of planting more than 1,000 new trees at each Buddhist pagoda, temple or relic joining the program.  

The program is implemented in coordination with the Resource and Environment Magazine, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s Executive Committees in provinces and cities, Youth Union, Women Association, local authorities and sponsors in the country.

The program contributes to create a green, clean and beautiful landscape in relics, temples and pagodas, practically responding to the Prime Minister's initiative to plant one billion green trees, as well as promotes communication work on the preservation and promotion of tangible cultural values ​​by living green.

The program launches the planting of perennial woody plants that would create shade and suit worshipping places, such as frangipani (dai), sacred fig (bo de), cluster fig (sung), jackfruit (mít), bombax ceiba (gao), pine (thong), bamboo (tre), lilies, orchids, lotus flowers, etc.

From April to now, the program has launched three events of planting 1,100 trees at Thang Phuc pagoda located in Hai Phong city’s Tien Lang district on April 3, 1,115 trees at Dai Tue pagoda in Nghe An province’s Nam Dan district on April 17, and 1,015 trees at Dong pagoda in Thanh Hoa province’s Quang Xuong district on April 24.
