People in Cao Duc commune of Gia Binh district in the northern province of Bac Ninh held on April 21 the traditional festival celebrating the 2,298th birthday of General Cao Lo.

Legend says Cao Lo, a Vietnamese weaponry engineer and minister under King An Duong Vuong from 257 to 207BC, was born in Cao Duc commune in Bac Ninh. He is credited with building the Co Loa Ramparts and helping the king to create a legendary crossbow to fight northern invaders.

To pay tribute to the talented general, the local people constructed Cao Lo Vuong Temple for worshipping the general, and people in the two communes of Cao Duc and Van Ninh annually hold a traditional festival at the temple on the 10th day of the third lunar month for honoring and paying respects to his merits.

This temple was recognized as a national cultural and historical relic on March 8, 2006, and has been restored a couple of times. The latest restoration of the relic site, costing tens of billions VND, made it a favorite cultural and tourist spot for visitors.
