Dong Cuong church in Hai Hau district, Nam Dinh province is one of wooden churches built in the French colonial period.
The wooden church was built entirely by manual methods and the skilful hands of Nam Dinh provincial artisans. Wood after sawing, chiseling are mounted together without nails or some other adhesives.

The interior of Dong Cuong church is decorated entirely with precious woods, sculpted very carefully, then gilded in traditional ways.
According to a Japan research foundation, after conducting a survey of 1,200 churches belonging to three Catholic dioceses of Phat Diem and Bui Chu and Thai Binh, there are more than 300 churches with wooden architecture in Northern Vietnam preserved till the present (accounting for 24% of the churches in the North). Most of them were built in the French colonial period.
