Seventy-six sculpture artifacts of antique Buddhism and Hinduism with the theme “Ancient Buddhist and Hindu art in Southern region” were displayed on April 29 at Lieu Quan Buddhist centre in Hue city.
The sculpture artifacts belong to collections of two collectors Trần Đình Sơn and Nguyễn Anh Tuấn from Ho Chi Minh city. This is a collection of ancient sculpture artifacts of Buddhist and Hindu art which is privately owned - the first of its kind announced in Vietnam - containing high values of history, culture and art of the Central, Southeast and the Mekong Delta in Vietnam.
It is considered as valuable resources, consolidating the evidence of early presence of ethnic groups - owner of ancient cultures of Champa, Oc Eo and post-Oc Eo.
The characteristic of the collection have reflected the consistent inheritance throughout the process of establishment and development in the rich spiritual life, associating with belief and religion of ancient people from centuries ago.
Local people and tourists at the exhibition
Most of the sculpture artifacts were shown in rounded statues and embossments, with sandstone, wood and metal as the mainly materials for sculpting. The main theme of these artifacts is the image of Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, as well as deities and mascots in the Indian legendary such as Vishnu, Shiva, Brahma.
