Ethnic village hosts month-long activities to celebrate Family Day

06/03/2021

A wide range of cultural activities are set to take place throughout June at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Son Tay town on the outskirts of Hanoi to mark Vietnam Family Day on June 28.

In June children will have the chance to enjoy a number of traditional folk games, such as kéo co (tug-of-war), đánh yến (a sport similar to badminton), and tu lu (spindle turning).

Visitors will be invited to participate in Working as An Artisan, a programme designed to equip visitors with knowledge about the various cultures of different ethnic groups.

They will also learn about the different processes of producing traditional costumes through dyeing and weaving, or they can experience being a farmer and learn about some of the typical plants grown in ethnic inhabited areas.

The highlight of the event will be an art performance put on by ethnic groups of the Central Highland region scheduled to be held on June 26.

Several rituals will be re-enacted throughout the course of the event, including wedding rituals, Xoan dancing, and a gong performance, all of which aim to preserve the traditional culture of ethnic groups.

Traditional cuisine will also be on show, serving to bring local tourism products closer to visitors.
