The establishment of Dong Thuan vocational training Center under the Congregation of Salesians of Don Bosco was approved by Vinh Long provincial authorities in 2004.
The vocational training center located in Tan Hoa commune of Vinh Long provincial city has been built on an area of 2.5 ha.
Given the fact that there has been an increasing number of students who dropped out of school due to disadvantaged circumstances, priests of the Congregation of Salesians of Don Bosco have committed themselves to provide practical vocational trainings as well as basic knowledge for these students so they could find jobs to help themselves and become good citizens.
To achieve the set goals, apart from most practical vocational trainings, Dong Thuan training center has collaborated with national education centers in the province in order for students of the training center can continue their learning and finish high school with graduation certificates.
In addition, Dong Thuan vocational training center has also organized sport activities, such as football and volleyball, teachings how to use musical instruments, such as drum and trumpet, and dancing.
With compassion and love of priests in charge of the vocational training center, enrollees have become well-behaved students, however their circumstances were when they entered the training center. Dong Thuan vocational training also takes care and provides full support for students under special difficulties and those of ethnic groups in other remote provinces.
In regards to vocational trainings, the training center offers a wide range of vocational careers in the fields of electricity, mechanics, sewing, information technology, electric refrigeratory. After graduation, students of the Dong Thuan training center have all been employed at companies and manufacturers and they have all been commended for their conscientiousness as well as vocational skills.
Given its success and contributions, Dong Thuan vocational training center of the Congregation of Salesians of Don Bosco received many visits of state officials from central and local authorities.
In a visit to the training center in May 31 this year, Chairman of the Government Committee Vũ Chiến Thắng presented gifts to the vocational training center and spoke highly of love and compassion for disadvantaged children by the training center’s founders and teachers. He also praised their efforts for creating good training facilities as well as education and training achievements of the vocational training center recorded over the past years.
Vice President cum Secretary General of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Hầu A Lềnh on his visit to the training center on June 4 this year presented scholarships to 20 most disadvantaged students of the centre, each scholarship worth three million VND and fundraised by Dai Doan Ket (Great Unity) newspaper of the VFF’s Central Committee.
According to Priest Director of Dong Thuan vocational training center Thomas Vũ Kim Long, once supported and approved by state authorities, the training center will be expanded into a vocational training school for helping more disadvantaged children in their education and vocational careers./.
