Religious organizations in Dong Thap province’s Tam Nong district have participated in a conference on environmental protection and climate change adaptation.

The conference was held by the district’s VFF Committee, Division of Natural Resources and Environment and Division of Home Affairs, and attended by representatives of religious organizations in the district.

The conference discussed and approved solutions for better implementing the coordinating program, including a survey on lifestyles, environmental situation and capacity to cope with climate change amongst religious communities in residential areas, development of programs on environmental protection accordance with teachings and chapters of religions, implementation of programs ensuring clean water usage and sewage system, as well as setting up of self-manage groups in religious communities for environmental protection and climate change adaptation.

As reported at the conference, the district’s authorities will launch the coordinating program in all 12 communes and towns with the model “religious adherents actively participate in environmental protection”. The program will be started in three new rural communes in 2017 and replicated in other three communes in 2018, as well as continued in six remaining communes and towns up to 2020.
