District-level congress of Buddhist Sangha in Tien Giang

The district-level congress of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in the southern province of Tien Giang has been successfully convened in 6 out of 11 districts in the province from September 20 to November 10.  

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, each congress was held with no more than 20 monks and nuns, and a strict implementation of measures against the pandemic spread.

The VBS congress in districts of Cai Be, Go Cong, Tan Phuoc, Cai Lay, Go Cong Tay, Go Cong Dong have reviewed Buddhist affairs in the 2016-2021 tenure, including practical contributions and supports sent to the disadvantaged people and the Covid-19 prevention work over the past months.

The events also elected the executive board of the VBS chapter in the 6 districts for the 2021-2026 term.

As reported, in the last five years, social charities worth 121 billion VND have been launched by the VBS in districts of Cai Be (36 billion VND), Go Cong (23 billion VND), Tan Phuoc (5 billion VND), Cai Lay (17 billion VND), Go Cong Tay (14 billion VND), Go Cong Dong (26 billion VND).

According to Most Venerable Thích Huệ Minh, Chairman of the Executive Committee the VBS’s chapter in Tien Giang, the organization of the district-level VBS congress in the five remaining districts of the province will be completed in 2021.
