Da Nang: Son Tra district Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Committee reviews its performance 2014

Son Tra district Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee reviewed its activities 2014 and approved a working program for 2015 at a meeting held on Dec. 26 in My Khe pagoda.

Attending the meeting were Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nguyện, member of the VBS Executive Council cum Head of Da Nang city VBS Executive Committee; Most Venerable Thích Trí Viên, Head of Son Tra district VBS Executive Committee; monks, nuns and Buddhists in the district.

Local guests at the meeting included Mr. Nguyễn Cao Cường, Head of Committee for Ethnic and Religious Affairs of Da Nang city Vietnam Fatherland Front; Mr. Nguyễn Văn Cửu, Chairman of the Son Tra district Vietnam Fatherland Front and local authorities’ representatives.

 At the meeting, Most Venerable Thích Trí Viên briefed about Buddhist activities in the district in 2014 as well as the draft plan of activities for 2015. According to Most Venerable Thích Trí Viên, currently the district has 15 registered pagodas with 40 monks and nuns and 1,589 Buddhists. The pagodas in the district have been rebuilt and restored with a total budget of 30 billion VND and conducted charitable and social activities with the amount of 1.4 billion VND, including two houses of gratitude and charitable visits to poor people on occasion of Buddha's celebration, the Parents Festival….

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyễn Văn Cửu, Chairman of the district People’s Committee highlighted contributions made by monks, nuns and Buddhists in social activities and expressed his hope that monks, nuns and Buddhists in the district would further promote Buddhist and social activities and live “better religious and secular life”.

On this occasion, the district VBS Executive Committee presented 50 million VND to the district Vietnam Fatherland Front for supporting the building of solidarity houses.
