Celebration of Khmer Chol Chnom Thmay in Soc Trang during Covid-19 epidemic

For preventing the Covid-19 epidemic, the association for solidarity of patriotic monks in Soc Trang province has sent a notification to Khmer pagodas requesting them to strictly implement measures against the epidemic during Chol Chnam Thmay Festival.  

According to Senior Venerable Lâm Nhẫn, Abbot of Prek Pinh Tong pagoda, following the instruction of the provincial Buddhist monks solidarity association, monks and the management board of the pagoda have decided not to hold celebrating activities of large gatherings in the pagoda as in previous year during Chol Chnam Thmay Festival.

The society for solidarity of patriotic Buddhist monks in My Tu district have closely worked with local authorities for the strict observance of directives of the Prime Minister and the notification of the provincial solidarity association in seven Khmer pagodas in the district.

According to Most Venerable Tăng Nô, Vice Chairman of the provincial Buddhist solidarity association, heads and the management boards of Khmer pagodas in the locality have been instructed to conduct religious practices in ways that help preventing the spread of the nCovi epidemic as recommended local authorities, such as the suspension of all Buddhist services, worshipping rituals and cultural activities of large gatherings in these pagodas.

The festival runs from April 13 to 16 this year./.
