Catholics in Ninh Binh make practical contributions for local socio-economic development

Ninh Binh province currently has 162,000 Catholic followers, accounting for 17.69% the provincial population.  

For the past years, Catholics in Ninh Binh province have actively joint in social movements and programs launched by local authorities for socio-economic development in the locality.

In Kim Son district, three big enterprises making sedge handicraft products have employed 4,000 full-time workers as well as created 30,000 part-time jobs for locals. Kim Chinh parish has 120 households making mats, creating revenue of hundreds of millions dong each year.

In agriculture and rural areas, 32 out of 42 sub-parishes in Nho Quan district have exchanged land for promoting rural economy. Catholics in the parishes of Nhu Son, Xuan Hoi and Xuan Thien in Kim Son district have donated 750m2 of land and contributed over VND 300 million for building rural roads. Tri So sub-parish under Mong Huu parish in Kim Son district has raised fund for completing two cultural centers, worth VND 600 million. Quang Phuc parish pastoral board in Yen Mo district in collaboration with local authorities and followers has made 2km of concrete road and 500 m of canals.

In response the “lighting up the countryside project” movement, Priest Peter Vũ Đức Phượng, head of Ang Son parish in Hoa Lu district has appealed to followers of two sub-parishes of Tri So and Dai Ang for contributing money and working days for improving the lighting system in the district.
