The Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics (CSVC) reviewed its 2014 activities and approved plans for 2015 at a conference held on Dec. 17 in Hanoi.

The reviewing conference was chaired by Priest Trần Xuân Mạnh, Vice Chairman cum Secretary General of CSVC, attended by Catholic dignitaries and followers.

Joining the event were Vice Chairman of the Central Fatherland Front Committee Lê Bá Trình, Deputy Director of Catholic Affairs Department under the Government Committee for Religious Affairs Nguyễn Dương Long, and representatives from the Central Party Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization.

During the conference, delegates highlighted participation of Catholics in numbers of programs and movements for community and social development, which includes creating cultural lifestyles in residential areas, building the new model of rural countryside, poverty reduction and eradication of hunger…

In particular, Catholic individuals and grassroots organizations made many practical contributions, such as voluntarily providing land, materials and labors for building local facilities; donating money for charitable activities; working closely with local authorities in building “solidarity house”, protecting Vietnamese seas and islands, helping fishermen going to Hoang Sa and Truong Sa islands…

As approved at the reviewing conference, one of key tasks for CSVC in 2015 is to reflect desires and opinions of Catholics and their organizations to the State and the Vietnam Fatherland Front in order to meet their legitimate needs and promote their roles in building national unity and prosperity.

For recognition of efforts and work achievements, the CSVC presented four awards and ten certificates of merit and about 1000 symbols of recognition to outstanding individuals and organizations./.
