The construction of a charitable house for a poor family in Hai Phong City’s Tien Lang district was started at a ground-breaking ceremony held by Hai Phong Caritas and the city’s Red Cross on June 12.
Attending the ceremony included Priest Director of Caritas Hai Phong John Baptist Vũ Văn Kiện, Priest Head of Xuan Quang Parish Joseph Nguyễn Văn Huy, and Chairwomen of the city Red Cross Cao Thị Phượng, the family of Maria Phạm Thị Gọn.
Mrs. Phạm Thị Gọn’s family residing in Xuan Quang Parish in Tien Lang district is a typically poor and disadvantaged household with family members of three generations living together, including her middle-age daughter with disability, her nine year-old grandson and herself who is already 77 years old. Her family has received regular supports from Caritas Hai Phong since 2016, including a scholarship for her grandchild.
The charitable house for Mrs. Gọn’s family was estimated at the cost of VND 90 million, in which Hai Phong Caritas contributed VND 30 million and the rest will be raised from the district authorities and local parishioners.
