A ceremony for the inauguration of the sanctum of Cao Dan pagoda located in Tan Loc commune, Ca Mau province’s Thoi Binh district was solemnly held on April 23.
The event saw the presence of Most Venerable Thạch Hà, Chairman of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Executive Committee cum Head of Association for Solidarity patriotic monks in Ca Mau and Abbot of Monivongsa pagoda, and abbots of Khmer pagodas in the Delta River region.
Local guests at the event included Vice Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Nguyễn Văn Khởi and Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Ngô Hòa Dựa.
Cao Dan pagoda (or Sareymenchey pagoda), the oldest Khmer temple in Ca Mau, was built in 1922 and deteriorated after a century of existence and periods of wars. In 2008, the management board of the pagoda applied for rebuilding its sanctum.
Cao Dan pagoda has been ranked the provincial historical relic in 2007 and classified as the national historical relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism since 2017.
