Ca Mau province: Phu Tan district VBS holds 2nd Buddhist congress

Phu Tan district Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in Ca Mau province held on August 6 the second congress for 2016 – 2021 tenure at Phap Hoa pagoda.

Attending the congress included dignitaries of the provincial VBS Executive Committee, representatives from the local authorities and about 150 monks, nuns and followers of Buddhist temples, monasteries in the district.

Phu Tan district has nearly 4,000 Buddhist followers with 45 monks and nuns and six worshipping places.

As reported at the congress, in addition to good results recorded in Buddhist affairs, Buddhist dignitaries and followers in the district have also proactively participated in local movements for socio-economic development and contributed over VND 11 billion to social and charitable activities for the past five years.

On this occasion, the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and the district People’s Committee presented certificates of merit to four Buddhist groups and eight individuals for their outstanding contributions in social and charitable activities in the locality, and the district VBS Executive Board a received certificate of merit from the provincial VBS Executive Committee.

The one-day congress elected 25 members of the new-term VBS Executive Board for 2016 – 2021 tenure with Venerable Thích Trí Nguyên reelected as the Board Chairman.
