Buddhist pagoda in Ben Tre supports locals hard hit by tornado

Senior Venerable Vice Chairman cum Chief Secretary of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Committee in Ben Tre province and Abbot of Phuoc Loc pagoda in Binh Dai district’s Dai Hoa Loc commune Thích Trí Thọ extended on September 1 charity visits to people hit by a tornado in the locality.

As reported, a heavy rain with a tornado on August 22 destroyed over 100 houses in Thanh Phuoc and Dai Hoa Loc communes, causing many people injured and hospitalized.

 

Sharing difficulties with people badly affected by the tornado, from mobilized resources, Senior Venerable Thích Trí Thọ has handed over packs of support, each containing 1,5 million VND in cash and ten kilograms of rice to families having houses fully damaged, and presented sets of support, each containing 200.000 VND and ten kilograms of rice to families having houses with roof blew off.

 

The support packages were valued at 47 million VND in total, contributed by Senior Venerable Thích Quảng Ba and the Australia Relief Fund, Buddhists Nguyễn Hương and Nhật Thiện from the USA; Mrs. Trần Thị Kim Ngân from My Tho City; and a lay Buddhist Buddhist group in Australia.
