The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Ben Tre city has issued a plan encouraging lay Buddhists to say no to plastic for environment protection.

According to the plan, the Fatherland Front Committee in the city in collaboration with Buddhist worshipping places in the locality guides and encourages people and Buddhist families to reduce disposable plastic products and non-biodegradable plastic bags, replacing plastic materials with glassware and crockery, contributing to reduce environmental pollution, and protect health and ecosystem.

Specifically, Kim Quang pagoda located in the city's Ward 5 was nominated as the first pilot place to launch the program. Abbess Thích nữ Tịnh Thanh of the pagoda affirmed that she will uphold the responsibility to protect and maintain a green, clean, and beautiful space of the pagoda, and persuade lay Buddhists to actively participate in the environment protection program.
